More than 150 countries around the world celebrates the “World Refrigeration Day” every year on June 26th. To celebrate this special day, with an aim to promote the ideas, innovations and breakthroughs in the HVAC industry by creating an opportunity for the students to demonstrate their expertise and to develop their technical skill on HVAC engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a HVAC based project showcasing competition and technical symposium “TecHVAC 1.0”.

This event become successful with the hardwork of the departmental volunteer society namely, ASHRAE IUBAT Student Branch (AISB),  AISB is the first officially recognized student Branch of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) in Bangladesh. They have organized HVAC based project competition for the first time in Bangladesh as well.

TecHVAC 1.0 featured some exclusive segments: HVAC project display, poster presentation, award giving ceremony, cultural gala and seminar on HVAC technologies, latest industry trends and developments, future prospects of HVAC industry in Bangladesh etc.

Chief Guest of the event, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, MP, honorable Minister of Industries of Republic of Bangladesh joined virtually and expressed his gratitude towards the organizers of “TecHVAC 1.0” and cordially delivered his valuable speech on the development and support for the HVAC industry in Bangladesh. Representatives from AUST, Walton and ASHRAE Bangladesh Chapter were also present during the event and took part in the exhibition.

The event was initiated after all the invited guests arrived into the campus and participated in the project showcasing exhibition along with the respected Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT Prof Dr Abdur Rab and appreciated the HVAC projects demonstrated by the participants. The seminar session started with a grant winning presentation from Md. Abir Hasan and Dr. A. K. M. Foysal Ahmed his supervisor, speech from special guest Engr. Md. Hasmatuzzaman (President, ASHRAE Bangladesh Chapter) giving his valuable speech on HVAC and World Refrigeration Day. Engr. Muhammad Ershad Jaman Khan (Chairman, Membership Promotion, ASHRAE Bangladesh Chapter), Engr. Sondip Biswas (Deputy Executive Director, Walton Air Conditioner), Engr. Ariful Islam (Operative Director, Walton Air Conditioner R&I) and Dr. Md Zillur Rahman (Associate Professor, AUST) also addressed about research & developments of HVAC, industrial potential and future of HVAC industry in Bangladesh. IUBAT awarded with the excellent performance as student branch under ASHRAE Bangladesh Chapter. Mr. Abir Hossain (Chief Technical officer of AISB) received the award of recognition from the guests. All the invited guest enjoyed the cultural gala in the evening followed by the announcement of the Alumni Association Committee for session 2022 – 2023.
